Embracing our Mid!

025_SoooSRSLY - Rosa_26_edited.jpg

Heather and Karrie are two friends who’ve found themselves squarely in the middle: middle-aged women living in a mid-sized Midwestern community, juggling careers, families, and the beautiful chaos of midlife.

Between them, they’re moms to kids with wildly different passions, from media to music, military service to sports, dance, and even musicals. Life is busy, loud, meaningful, and occasionally ridiculous.

They didn’t grow up together. They met as adults while navigating work, parenting, and everything that comes with building a life in the Midwest. Their first impressions weren’t exactly love at first sight. Heather thought Karrie might be a little “too much,” and Karrie wondered if Heather might be “not quite enough,” since Heather tends to be a bit more reserved while Karrie arrives… energetically. Somewhere along the way, they realized that together they balance each other out perfectly; meeting right in the middle.

Sooo SRSLY… started as Heather and Karrie’s place to share stories and observations about life in the “mid.” Along the way, their longtime friend Suzi has been a steady supporter and familiar voice behind the scenes. Now she’s stepping in front of the mic as a co-host, bringing her own perspective, humor, and Midwestern sensibility to the conversation.

Welcome to Sooo SRSLY… where the three of them share stories, observations, and honest conversations about embracing the “mid.”

Heather

Deadpan realist. Professional gift-giver. Living the dream.

Heather hails from Jupiter, Florida, but landed in Nebraska in the early 2000s and never looked back. A proud University of Florida Gator, she bleeds orange and blue - though her heart will always belong to the Boston Red Sox thanks to her Northeast roots.

Heather perfected the art of “working smarter, not harder” early in life and has applied it everywhere from Girl Scouts to grad school to everyday life. She claims she doesn’t like to “people,” and has carefully crafted a lifestyle that honors that philosophy.

A legendary gift-giver and frequent victim of infomercials and social media ads, Heather’s shopping habits have played a major role in inspiring the vlogblog’s product review segments. When asked the rhetorical question, “How are you?” her answer is always the same: “I’m living the dream.”

Karrie

Midwest optimist with big ideas and a louder volume knob.

Karrie is a proud Nebraska native, born and raised in Aurora, where she spent her childhood bouncing between obedience and mild obnoxiousness. She originally dreamed of becoming an architect and eventually attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she didn’t quite finish that architecture degree—but did earn her “Mrs.” instead.

After several years of unfinished business hanging over her head, Karrie eventually completed her degree while married and raising two of her three children. She jokes that while most people who attend college for ten years become doctors, she managed to attend six schools, pursue four majors, and ultimately graduate so she could be a stay-at-home mom.

Now that her kids are older, Karrie works full-time in employee engagement and organizational strategy. One of her favorite mantras sums it up best: “My best years were at home, but my best work is yet to come.

Suzi

Strength, horses, honesty, and just enough beer.

Suzi is another Nebraska native who brings equal parts strength, authenticity, and fun to the group. After becoming a mom, she pushed herself in a big way, earning a Pro Card as a IFPA Figure Competitor - proving that determination and discipline don’t stop after kids.

She’s a creative spirit who is exactly what she appears to be: genuine, direct, and refreshingly real.

When she’s not spending time with friends and family, you’ll likely find her at the barn tending to horses, working out, focusing on nutrition, or enjoying the outdoors. And while she’s passionate about living a healthy lifestyle, she’s also the first to say that balance matters - especially when it includes a good beer and great company.
